MuffinTranslate

Makes chat, menus and the world clear in every player's language

Overview

MuffinTranslate adapts the server to each player's language Chat, menus, messages and world text stay clear for people who do not know English. One server can welcome players from many countries, and nobody has to switch language to be understood. Each player picks the language they read in, from a menu, and keeps it. What they type is translated for everyone else - and translation is not only chat: tab list, signs, menus, item names and lore go through it too, because a server people cannot read is not only its chat. Translation runs on your own machine. The models are downloaded once and then everything happens locally, so no chat message ever leaves your server and there is nothing to pay per word. Free: English plus 2 languages of your choice. With a key: all 50, no limit. Needs Paper (not Spigot or Bukkit), PacketEvents 2.13.0 or newer, and Python 3.10 or newer on the machine. Java 25 for Paper 26.x, Java 21 for 1.20.6 to 1.21.11. Full list under Requirements in the documentation.

Changelog

1.0.5
  • Fixed: a language a player picks is written to disk immediately
  • It used to sit in memory until the once-a-minute save or a clean shutdown, and an abrupt restart in between put them back on the default language
  • Every language change - a pick, a first join, a language turned off by the admin - now asks for the file to be written straight away, off the main thread
1.0.4
  • Fixed: the language menu came back at every login for players who had already seen it
  • The player is now written down when they join, before the menu opens, and saved straight away: that login is the only one that opens it, whatever they do
  • Anyone who already picked a language sees no difference
1.0.3
  • The glossary can be changed from the game: /mtranslate glossary lists the words that are never translated, add protects one more, remove releases one
  • Changes are written to glossary.yml and take effect straight away, with no restart
1.0.2
  • plugins/MuffinLicenze/ is now deleted outright, not only when it is left empty
1.0.1
  • A progress bar at the top of the screen while language packs download, for operators and anyone with muffintranslate.progress
  • It also covers the one-off engine setup on a first run, which used to be minutes of silence
  • New command /mtranslate progress: says what is downloading and sends a test bar
  • Identity, licence and local state moved into the hidden plugins/MuffinTranslate/.data/ folder
  • A server with no key writes no files at all
  • Console messages still in Italian are now English
  • Fixed: the bar dropped back to zero between one pack and the next
  • Fixed: a download cut short halfway is no longer mistaken for a finished one
1.0.0
  • First release: real-time chat translation, language menus, and translation of tab list, signs, menus and item text
